Elli Smith was in the process of rescuing a dog from the Arizona Humane Society when she suddenly stumbled upon another puppy who desperately needed her help.
I noticed a woman running with an animal in her hands that was completely inert and still. I thought then, “Oh no, I know what it looks like in the Arizona Humane Society and I know this animal is going to be put to sleep. – admitted Elli Smith, founder of Sky Sanctuary Rescue.
“Bring him to my vet immediately”
Elli ran to the hall of the facility, where she saw a woman asking for help with a puppy. Then Smith introduced herself and handed the woman her business card – just in case.
I got in the car and thought, “Please call me. Please call me. I was afraid that this puppy might not be able to cope. Luckily, that woman called me after 10 minutes and said they wanted to put the little one down in the Arizona Humane Society. I told him to bring him to my vet immediately. – says Elli.
Needed rapid blood transfusion
3- a week-old female named Penelope was covered in hundreds of ticks and needed an immediate blood transfusion. Fortunately, the vet had the perfect candidate to help. The vet's wife took their dog Murphy to the hospital right away. On the spot, it turned out that the dog immediately liked the baby in need.
He was very curious and interested in this puppy. Elli said.
Just a few syringes Murphy's blood brought the little pooch back to life
You could literally see him regain his colors and life. It was a special moment. I imagine how much Penelope must have been grateful to Murphy… her hero. – says Elli.
Found mum
Then Rachel Hendricks took a little bitch home so that she can bottle-feed her around the clock. Meanwhile, Elli was working to find Penelope's mom.
It turned out that Penelope's mom, Petunia, and 25 other dogs lived outside in a fenced pen. She spent her life in a dirty hole with no protection from the sun or rain. Fortunately, Smith managed to convince the property owner to let her take Petunia and other sick dogs.

Together at last!
Petunia was cleared of all ticks, and then she and Penelope could finally meet again – and they couldn't be happier about it. Petunia immediately began to lick and feed her baby. After reuniting, the personalities of both dogs changed completely.
Petunia is very outgoing. Penelope is very happy to have her mother back. Elli admitted.
Petunia and her baby will stay in their loving foster home until Penelope is 9-10 weeks old. Then it will be time for both dogs to start looking for new families. Elli is looking for homes for them that will give them a lot of attention, love and tenderness!
